Students who are undertaking the SQCF Level 6 Leadership Course across the school are seen here learning Emergency First Aid as part of a programme of modules run by the PE Department. Students complete courses such as Competition Organiser Training, Jog Scotland Training and Club Gold.
The PE Department put together this range of courses by working in partnership with Active Schools – in particularly our Active Schools Coordinator Judith Clyne.
Students taking part in these courses benefit by learning skills for life, learning and work and their confidence and communication skills have already notably improved.
Last year’s class were a big success story; six or seven of the group went on to study Sports Coaching, PE Teaching or Primary teaching.
In the future, the class will go out to local primary schools to plan and run after-school clubs based on what they have learned.
The class also help to run the Midlothian Giant Heptathlon which is happening in January.
In addition to this they planned and delivered a block of hockey to a S1 class which comes down to the department at the same time as them.
