Virtual Reality arrives in Modern Languages

Tuesday 26th November 2019

2G  French  became  the  first  class  at  LHS  to experience  Virtual  Reality  in the  classroom  when they  test-drove  the  VR  kits  currently  on  loan  from  Newbattle  High School.

We  were  able  to  visit  Paris,  the  French  Alps  and  Lyon  …  all within a single  period !

Our  young Modern  Linguists  gave  the experience a big thumbs-up  although  several members  of  the class  reported feeling dizzy at  the  top  of Mont Blanc.  This  may be  the  first reported  case  of  virtual  altitude  sickness !

The next  VR away-day  will  be on Thursday, when S3  German visit  Berlin’s  Museum Island.

Many thanks  to  Mr  Fulton  for  his  technical  assistance.

Going  Further  With Modern  Languages !

Mr  Poots,  Principal  Teacher,  Modern  Languages

‘We are British German’ – British people making a life for themselves in Germany

As  S2  pupils  consider their  course  choices  for  S3  –  including  which  language  (or  languages)  to  take  –  parents  and  carers  of  pupils  who  are  thinking  about  German as  an  option  might  like  to  share  this  article  with  their  children. It  features  three  British  women  (including a Scottish  baker)  who  have  made  lives  for  themselves [...]
