Parent Council Meeting

Friday 26th January 2018

Thursday 18th January saw our first Parent Council meeting of 2018.  Chaired by Lindsey McGregor the evening was a mixture of our now customary presentations from staff and students and lively debate and discussion on items raised by Parents Council members.

The agenda included a presentation from our Eco Committee, a Student Voice update, discussion on the proposed budget savings by Midlothian Council, discussion on the establishment of a Parent Council led mentoring programme (parental volunteers required).  This initiative was agreed earlier this session and is now gaining strong momentum.  Jayne Ross also spoke about the introduction of our mental health strategy that will focus on staff and student mindfulness.  This is being rolled out from April 2018.  The Parent Council also agreed to compile a response to the current ‘Empowering Schools’ consultation that is closing at the end of this month.

A significant feature of the work of the Parent Council and Fiona Harris and Fiona Robertson spoke about the healthy balance available for departments to access.  This currently sits at over £4000.

The evening concluded with the HT Report and associated discussion followed.

As always our thanks goes to the Parent Council for the excellent level of support, and challenge, they provide to the school.
