Basketball Brilliance

Friday 9th February 2018

Lasswade Lions continued their ‘roaring success’ in the Scottish Schools basketball quarter final match yesterday.  Their victory,  away against a strong Williamwood High School side,  extended their run this season to 7 – 0.

With the regionals out of the way in earlier rounds, the step up in class was obvious. Williamwood High had a well drilled and organised team, led by their numbers 10 & 11. But in the end the Lions squad, team fitness and organisation, proved too much for the home team.

Lasswade Lions started nervously, missing a few early baskets, resulting in them trailing 10-9 in the first quarter. A team talk from Coach Attinasi and a refocus on what they had been practicing, brought about a second quarter of unparalleled sporting prowess.  The Lions scored 18 to 4 points and built up a lead that would last until the end of the game.

Although 27-14 up at half time, the game was still in the balance. The third quarter started with Lasswade on the back foot again, but the boys defensive plays were right on the money. Daniel under the basket, looking strong and eager to attempt to steal the ball at every opportunity, if they got past Daniel , Ryan was waiting for them. Some excellent defensive plays by Sam, Josh, Caleb and Alex, who all their their work cut out for them marking Williamwoods’ fast wide players.

Storm weathered, Lasswade relaxed and controlled the rest of the game. Zac completely bossed it from here , aided by brilliant screens and off the ball running in offence from Morgan , Alex, Caleb, Josh, Sam, Ryan and Daniel.

Great team performance and thoroughly deserved victory.

Final score Williamwood 35 – 49 Lasswade Lions

The Lions move on to the semi finals…
