Covid-19 Update 20/03/20

Friday 20th March 2020

Today we have continued to work in response to recent Scottish Government and Midlothian Council statements.  This planning and work will continue over the weekend and into next week.

In summary, we see our teams,  teaching and non-teaching, contributing in four ways

  1. supporting students and their parents through the SQA process in a significantly new context,  i.e., no exam diet
  2. running a Key Worker Hub which ‘cares’ for the children of Key Workers (the clue is in the title!!);  this will be an honour and privilege for the school
  3. providing a service for the vast majority of our students who are learning from home via GLOW and our Google Suite of Apps;  this system will evolve and develop as we all get used to this system of working over the next few weeks and months
  4. supporting, with our partners across Midlothian Council, students with needs and circumstances that require a coordinated approach and bespoke programmes and interventions

We have realigned the work of our Senior Leadership Team to allow us to focus on these four issues in the short term.  Our aim being to ensure we deliver the best possible service we can for our community.

Today we have made excellent progress with our staff in asking them two questions

  1. how can you contribute to the four roles we now have?
  2. where is it best that you help from? (working from home/working at school)

Their response has been fantastic and allows us to plan effectively and, we hope, meet the needs of our community and staff in a time when we need to work in a way shaped by Covid-19 guidelines.

Over the course of the next few weeks we will provide updates regularly on the four ways we will contribute,  adding more detail as our service develops.

If ‘news’ is super significant we will continue to use GroupCall.

SQA Update 03/04/20

Yesterday evening the SQA released their latest statement regarding the 2020 certification process. This includes important changes to the assessment of N5 coursework and how ungraded courses will be certificated. An FAQs document for parents and carers is now also available from the SQA to address some of the questions that may arise from this recent statement.
