Covid-19 Update 16/03/20

Monday 16th March 2020

As of today, Monday 16 March, a number of our staff at Lasswade High School are following the latest NHS advice and self-isolating. Please note there are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus virus at the school. The NHS Public Health Protection Team has been contacted and assured us no restrictions or special control measures are required and the school should remain open.

However, with the numbers of staff self-isolating, this impacts on our ability to provide a ‘normal service’. Therefore from Tuesday 17 March, we will begin a process where, on rotation, S1, S2 and S3 year groups will be asked to remain at home. This means S1 students should stay at home on Tuesday 17 March, S2 on Wednesday 18 March, S3 on Thursday 19 March returning to S1 being at home again on Friday 19 March. Currently, we do not believe there is a need for more than one year group to be off at a time.

This approach allows our school to prioritise both the resources we have and Senior Phase classes as these students work towards SQA performances and deadlines. At the same time, we want to give parents and carers notice of our intention so you can make childcare contingency plans for this week and potentially ongoing, depending on staffing levels.

If students are at home they will be able to access learning remotely.  The school is well-placed for all students to continue with their education by accessing learning resources through GLOW and the Google Suite of apps. This is predominantly being done through work posted by teachers onto Google Classroom. All students should be very familiar with the use of this facility as we have been using it for a number of months and they should have access to all of their classes on Google Classroom via codes shared with them by their teachers. This will also allow students to send completed work back to their teachers and for feedback to be provided on an ongoing basis remotely. All students have also been informed through assembly, and all parents by Groupcall, of the codes for the students to access their yeargroup Google Classroom for advice, information and wider communication from the school.

As the situation evolves we will continue to update parent/carers on a daily basis on the school website, GroupCall (as appropriate) and Twitter.
