Covid-19 Update 22/03/20

Sunday 22nd March 2020

The following update is posted after the First Minister announced this afternoon that no Senior Phase students should attend school to complete SQA mandatory coursework.  It complements the most recent Midlothian Council statement posted earlier.

Our teams will now act to see if any outstanding coursework can be done remotely while we await SQA advice on exactly how they will certificate students’s qualifications and achievements.  We will update students and their parent carers as we get more clarity.  We are aware of the challenges around this and ask that parent/carers do not contact the school at this stage with individual concerns.  We expect a statement form the SQA early this week.

Following a full and considered assessment of NHS, national and local government advice the following measures will apply for Lasswade High School staff and students from Monday 23 March.

We are in a new phase of our school history and have updated our vision and values statement.  Our revised, and temporary, values basis of our work was agreed in a short consultation with available staff on Friday 20th March.  It reflects the acronym: #SERVICE

These values and principles will help to shape and guide our decision making and actions in what will be challenging and uncertain times over the next few weeks and months.   Our new, temporary, Mission Statement is; ‘be Brave, stay Safe, be Brilliant’. This replaces ‘Dream, Believe, Achieve @ Lasswade’.

Our teams, teaching and non-teaching, will contribute in four ways:

  1. Senior Phase SQA:  SLT Lead, Ms Struthers (Core Team: Ms Mitchell and Mrs Clark)
  2. Key Worker Hub:  SLT Lead, Mr Hornell (Core Team: Mrs Risien, Mrs Fleming and Mrs Wilkinson)
  3. E-learning Continuity:  SLT Lead, Mr Chisholm (Core Team: Mrs Brown, Miss McGinty and Mr Fulton)
  4. ‘Vulnerable’ Students:  SLT Lead, Mrs Yule (Core Team: Mrs McLaren and Miss Hughes)

We have asked staff working with young people,  i.e., initially with those of Key Workers, but potentially with ‘vulnerable’ students as the weeks develop,  to

The school website will be updated, Monday to Friday, on a daily basis.   There is likely to be a Sunday update too!

Staff routines and systems to ensure a high quality experience and improvement will evolve and adapt to reflect the remote/distance status of our staff and students.  We will require your continued support and patience.  Thank you.
