JASS Group Supports Our Eco Work

Wednesday 7th February 2018

The JASS (Junior Award Scheme for Schools) is organised by FOTA (Friends Of The Award).  This session the school has engaged with JASS.  A significant aim of our JASS work is to make sure that those S1 students involved settle well into Lasswade and are active in the school’s life and work.

JASS classes started in September 2017 and so far the S1 students have developed a wonderful project for an outdoor classroom. All of them came up with great ideas for improving the school’s eco friendly environment and outside areas such as the woodland at the back of the school. In order to achieve the goal the group has joined the school’s Eco Committee and will work in collaboration with other departments in the school and members of our local community. The common aim is to renew our Green Flag status for Lasswade High School.

The JASS classes are very enthusiastic about developing the woodland area behind the school. Simple but effective ideas such as a tyre swing, log stumps, shed or teepee, bug exploring equipment and a mud kitchen are all being considered. The students are keen to develop a Sensory Play Area.  Our JASS students recognise that everyone could benefit from an outdoor space like this to learn, reflect and have fun in. The classes are embarking on a very ambitious project and are students with determination to achieve their DREAM – we have no doubt they will succeed!

If you think you could support this work please contact the school office and ask for Mr David Hunter in the first instance.
