New Staff Interviews – Mr Keith

Tuesday 6th March 2018

In January of this year we were pleased to welcome Mr Keith, teacher of Creative Design, who comes to us, not only with over 11 years teaching experience, but with a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, dedication and organisation. As part of his ‘induction’ we have asked Mr Keith the following questions.

What first attracted you to Lasswade High School? Having worked in Midlothian Council for the last 10 years, the staff in the Creative Design department are known by their reputation – young, exciting and enthusiastic who want only the best for their students and who are always looking for ways to improve.

What were your first impressions on settling in at Lasswade High School?

Believe it or not, I was a former student in the ‘old’ school and to walk into a state of the art, hi-tech new building was a real ‘wow!’ factor. The sheer size of the building and the number of students was mind blowing.  Like the staff, the students were friendly and welcoming and I found them eager to learn, particularly during practical lessons.

Our Vision Statement is Dream, Believe & Achieve @ Lasswade underpinned by strong values. What ‘value’ best describes you and why?

Definitely ‘Determination’ in life. As a ‘regular guy’ and a former student, I was one of the first in my family to have the opportunity to study Industrial Design at Napier University.  I was ‘determined’ to work hard, succeed and to achieve my goal.

If you could change places with anyone for 24 hours, who would it be and why?

Without hesitation, and as a huge sports fan, it would have to be Jose Mourinho, Manager of my favourite football team, Manchester United. He is inspirational and regarded as one of the most successful football managers in the world.

Where is your favourite holiday destination and why?

One the first major holidays as a young child was to Toronto in Canada which holds many fond memories for me – the CN Tower, the world’s tallest, free-standing structure and, of course, the power of the amazing Niagra Falls. I hope to return one day with my own family.

How do you spend your spare time?

I am very much a family man and I enjoy visiting the cinema. I do find time as I am keen swimmer and I regularly train in the swimming pool.  My other passion is, of course, football and a good part of my spare time is spent coaching youngsters with local football club, Bonnyrigg Rose.

Recruitment is a regular part of our work at Lasswade High School. Look out for more ‘New Staff Interviews’ in future news items.
