Tuesday 8th October 2019
Lasswade’s Student Voice (SV) is now well underway with the students having held their first round of Year Group Council meetings and the first ever School Parliament. This took place today, Tuesday 8th October. See below for the meeting agenda to see what was discussed.
We have a total of 94 Student Voice reps from a variety of year groups who have been working hard on pulling together ideas for school improvement. Some of the areas discussed by the Year Group Councils and then reported at the Parliament can be seen in the agenda here.
All discussions which take place at these meetings then create an ‘action’ which members have to complete in order to further their plans.
Recent decisions/actions following these discussions have been:
• to replace the Level 6 Leadership Award within the S5 PSE cycle with something students found more valuable. This followed a fantastic amount of research and effort from the S5 Student Voice Council who presented their findings to relevant members of staff.
• to use expertise from Midlothian Council to review the break and lunchtime usage of the Atrium to better maximise the space.
• To utitilise the S4/5/6 Humanutopia Heroes expertise more widely through Student Support, in the hopes that this helps minimise student bullying/anxiety.
The next round of Year Group Council meetings will take place in the first week of November, feeding into a Parliament at the start of December.
Staff have been asked to note that Student Voice Representatives are more than willing to attend staff groups in order to help us gain an insight into their thoughts and opinions. SV Reps have already been involved with the Relationships to Support Learning staff group and involved in the recent Depute Head interviews.
