Google Guardian: We are in the process of sending our S1 Google Guardian invites – we have experienced some admin issues with this, but we are anticipating that you should all have received by now. Please remember that these invites will be from Google, not from Lasswade High School. In addition, they may go into your junk folder so please check there if you cannot see it.
Free School Meals: Payment for upcoming School Holidays (Friday 11th September and Monday 14th September 2026) will be paid to Bank Accounts on Tuesday 8th September 2026. £5.60 per Secondary School pupil and £4.60 for primary pupils.
Appeals Outcomes: The outcomes of appeals will be confirmed to schools on 1st October. We will notify students and parent/ carers of the outcomes of these. New certificates will be issued by Qualifications Scotland in November, where required.
CPAG (Child Poverty Action Group): CPAG are running session , which will be delivered in partnership with Into Film and Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) over the next few weeks. These sessions offer a great opportunity for parents and carers to gain knowledge, information and practical advice on topics that can support families and strengthen their wider school community. NHS Flu Vaccination Forms: Thank you to those who have already returned their forms, please check with your child that they have returned the form to student reception so we can ensure these are passed on to the nursing team so they can be included in this year’s vaccinations.
Google Guardian: All S1 Parent/ carers should have received information about Google Guardian today. Google Guardian allows you to receive a weekly overview of your child’s learning activities. Invites will be sent on Monday to enable you to access this platform. It is important to note that these emails will be from Google – not Lasswade HS – so may go into junk folders.

Priority Appeals Outcomes: The outcomes of priority appeals have now been released. All students, and former students, have been notified of the outcomes. We are expecting a date shortly for the outcomes of all other appeals. This is likely to be in October, with new certificates issues in November, where required.
Qualifications Scotland 2027 Exam Timetable: Qualifications Scotland have released the 2027 exam. This can be accessed here.
Adult Learning: Midlothian CLLE are running a number of Adult Learning Qualifications that still have space this academic year. These qualifications provide an excellent opportunity for adults to gain recognised qualifications, develop new skills, enhance employment prospects, or progress towards further education and training.

Photographs: Student photographs were taken this week and students have each been provided with order information. This information sheet provides you with the instructions and unique reference required for you to register to see your child’s portraits. You’ll need to register at www.UrPix.co.uk to see their photographs. Please keep your ID private. There are offers for ‘early bird’ orders, including free photographs. Once you register UrPix will keep you informed of progress, as it will be a few days before everything is online.
Parent Council: Please check our dates for upcoming Parent Council Meetings. Our first meeting is in person, at Lasswade High School, on 22nd September 7-8:30pm. Most other meetings are online. Appeals: Monday is our deadline for entering any appeals to Qualifications Scotland. If any student wishes to appeal a grade they should speak with their teacher on Monday to ensure this can be processed.
Photographers: Urpix are in school on Wednesday and Thursday next week for individual student photographs schedule attached, this is however subject to change. The S6 group photo has been rearranged for October.
Online Safety: It has been brought to the attention of Police that a number of WhatsApp chat groups are currently circulating and appear to have originated in countries outwith the UK. Individuals from various countries have been added to these groups, where content described as “anime” along with other potentially inappropriate material, has been shared. These groups may pose risks to children and young people and could have a harmful impact on their safety and wellbeing. Parents and carers are therefore encouraged to regularly check their child’s phone and online activity, where appropriate, and to ensure that suitable parental controls and privacy settings are in place. It is also important to speak openly with your child about online safety and encourage them to tell a trusted adult if they receive anything that makes them feel uncomfortable, worried or unsafe.For further advice and guidance, please see this helpful resource below from Internet Matters.
Building Security: Ensuring building security is vital and families are reminded that students can access the main school building from 8:20am every day. Students who arrive earlier than this are welcome to attend our Breakfast Club which runs every day in CL5, opposite the school reception. Students are reminded that they should only be in the school building after 3:35 if they are attending a supervised extra-curricular club or activity. Students looking for a quiet study area can use Lasswade Library which is a public space.
Additionally, we would like to remind parents and carers not to use disabled spaces when collecting their children at the end of the school day, unless you one is required, as this is preventing disabled members of the public from accessing the spaces they need.
Home to School Transport: We appreciate that some issues with school transport have continued this week and understand that there are continuing frustrations across Midlothian with this.
Please remember that the allocation of transport and available spaces is managed centrally and is outside the school’s control. If you need to apply for your young person to use Home to School Transport please email travelteam@midlothian.gov.uk. Students who do not have a bus pass should not attempt to board a school bus. Thank you for your patience and understanding while these issues are resolved.

Calendar: Significant events week beginning 10/08/26; Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will be the final days of the summer holiday for all students. Tuesday and Wednesday are Inset Days for staff only; on Thursday we’ll welcome all our students back and hold a series of Year Group Assemblies. Staffing: Today was the last day for a number of colleagues who are moving on to pastures new. We thank these colleagues for all their work with our students and their support for colleagues during their time at Lasswade High School. Rebecca will be stepping back from this role in the coming session. Our new PT Pathways will now take on the mantle and share our Wider Achievement news.
BGE Awards Ceremonies 2026: This week, we celebrated 455 student award winners from our 4 school Houses. The ceremonies were absolutely fantastic, with musical performances, staff challenges and a highlight from this year’s school show Legally Blonde. We had over 650 guests at the ceremonies as well as the entire House Teams. What a wonderful way to end the year! Our thanks to the House Teams, Music and Drama staff, Angela Bowman, the School and House Captains and student helpers. In addition, particular thanks to Karen Hughes for her leadership on this work.
Bagpipe Brilliance: Special thank you also to Toby Briggs for piping us into each award ceremony this week, but also for piping us all out of school on Wednesday, in advance of Scotland’s last group stage game against Brazil. It was a very special moment, a few grown men cried. Toby was magnificent!
YPI: On Wednesday, seven teams from S3 participated in the YPI final. YPI is a national philanthropy competition run by the Wood Group and teams represent charities of their choice; the winner receives a cheque for £3000 which supports the charity. Our young people were phenomenal and put in a huge amount of to present on behalf of their chosen charities including Ronald McDonald House, Pitcairn Pantry, Richmond’s Hope, Simon’s Community, Women’s Aid East and Midlothian, Play Midlothian and Maggie’s. After much deliberation, the panel selected Women’s Aid as the winners. Thanks to Liam Lyall and the Social Studies team who lead this so well. Thanks also to Grant from JP Morgan who supported the groups with their presentation skills and was a judge on the day.
Centre for Race, Education and Decoloniality Anti-Racist Bronze Award : We are delighted to announce that Lasswade High School has been awarded the Centre for Race, Education and Coloniality Anti Racist Bronze Award by Leeds-Beckett University. This is a highly prestigious award which showcases the work we have done over a number of years to embrace diversity and challenge racism within our school community. Thank you especially to Sarah Blair and Katherine Lebida (Humanities) who put in a huge amount of work to support this accreditation.

Calendar: Significant events week beginning 22/06/26: Next week, on Monday and Tuesday, we have our BGE Awards Ceremonies where we celebrate the successes and achievements of our S1-3 students. Our Senior Fashion students will go to London, and we will have our S4 Duke of Edinburgh Silver Qualifier events. We will update students on the new policy for mobile phones during assemblies on Wednesday and Thursday. We finish school for the session on Friday 26th June, at 12:15pm. This will also be a dress down day.
Staffing: This coming week we will say goodbye to a number of colleagues who are moving on to new roles. Jamie Graham, who many of you will know through his work with the school Rugby team, moves on to a promoted role in another authority. We also say goodbye to Gareth Fleming, Lucia Rodriguez-Romera, Valeria Semler and Kerry Malcolm. Next week we also welcome back Amanda Montague from maternity leave, and wish Hanna Dodds all the best as she begins hers.

School Show: On Wednesday and Thursday we were treated to a fabulous display of music, dancing and acting in our school show Legally Blonde. A huge well done to all of the staff and students that made these evenings such a success. Our final shows of the year are always emotional, particularly for our S6 students who now leave us. We thank our partners for their time and support also.
School Captains Recruitment: On Monday 15th June, 32 of our new S6 students took part in a recruitment process for 12 School Captain positions. All of the applicants did very well in what was a really rigorous process supported by Alison Malcolm from our Parent Council and our former School Captains. We are looking forward to working with the newly appointed team this coming session.

By signing up, they can choose to receive their results by email, text, or both. This means they won’t have to wait at home on results day to find out how they’ve done. Results Day – Tuesday 4th August
This year all students will receive their results on Tuesday 4th August. Certificates will arrive in the post and, if your child has signed up for MyQualificationsScotland (formally MySQA), they will also receive a text message or email to inform them of their results too.
Students should not come into school on results day, as staff will not be available.
We know that our students have worked incredibly hard this year – but this will nevertheless be an anxious time. Whilst we hope that they receive the results they are expecting, it is important to know the process for Appeals, should one be required.
Qualifications Scotland have prepared this document to support students, following their results, to support them in deciding whether an appeal is right for them.
Your Results – Qualifications Scotland
Appeals Process 2026
The Appeals 2026 service will be the same as last year’s service – students can request a marking review of their ‘Qualifications Scotland-marked assessment components’ (i.e. exam papers and assignments). Alternative assessment evidence’, like prelims, will not be accepted for this service. The service will be free and available to all students. Whilst students will be able to appeal directly to Qualifications Scotland, we would advise that they appeal following a discussion with their teacher.
Appeals 2026 will include a priority service for students with conditional offers for further education, training or employment. To use this service you must have an existing offer (e.g. via UCAS) that you can share with Qualifications Scotland. Students who require this service should enter their appeal directly, as the deadline is very tight this session.
Should I appeal?
If you are considering an appeal for one of your grades, then you are advised to discuss it with your teacher. Whilst you can appeal directly, and no ‘evidence’ is sent by the school, you might want to know more about your ‘breakdown’ (marks) in the exam, and you should consider your performance over the last year before you make a decision.
You must also be aware that proceeding with an appeal can result in your grade going up, staying the same or – in a minority of cases – going down.
Dates for Appeals
Please be aware if you register for an appeal yourself there are earlier deadlines – these are available via the Qualifications Scotland website.
If you would like to discuss your results, or the appeals process, the Qualifications Scotland email inbox will be open on 4th August to respond to questions: lasswadehs-sqa@midlothian.education
If, following your results, you need to reconsider your course choice for this year there will be a short window of opportunity to do so. Please remember, coursing changes will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and where a student requires a particular course/grade for specific reasons (e.g. entry to further/higher education, training etc) and not because they have changed their mind from the original course choices allocated.
A Google Form will be made available prior to the return to school in August, via Year Group Google Classrooms, this will go live on result day, and close on 14th August. Students should complete this as soon as they become aware that any change of course is required. Recoursing will be completed by 21st August.

Calendar: Significant events week beginning 15/06/26: next week we have our school show Legally Blonde on Wednesday and Thursday evening – our school shows are usually a sell out, so make sure you get your ticket fast! In addition, a number of our S4 students will be taking part in their Duke of Edinburgh Qualifier event throughout the week. Lastly, on Friday, we will finish the week with our Sports Day and an S2 Assembly to raise awareness for World Refugee Day.
Staffing: This week we appointed a History teacher, and a temporary member of staff for our ASN/ Complex Needs provision. On Monday we will welcome Grant Atkinson to the school. Grant will join us as the second of our PT Pathways, working across the school on school, and curriculum to support skills development. Currently we have no posts live on MyJobScotland, but we are interviewing in the last two weeks of term to secure staff for the coming session.

P7 Transition Visit: We have enjoyed meeting our new S1 group this week. Their visit days have brought a lot of buzz into the building, particularly as they navigated their timetables with their buddies and enjoyed their first ‘School of’ sessions. Staff have commented on their enthusiasm and energy, and we are all looking forward to having them with us in August. We gave them our traditional ‘guard of honour’ as they left this afternoon, cheered on by our S5 and S6 students.
Phone Free Information Evening: Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to attend last night’s information evening about our phased approach to becoming phone free. More details regarding the procedures and classroom processes are being developed and will be shared next week. School Uniform: As part of our approach to ensuring our school uniform is affordable and sustainable, we look to recycle and reuse items of school uniform. If your child has outgrown their school uniform, we would hugely appreciate any donations so that these can be passed on to other students. In particular, any donations of senior blazers (red braiding) would be hugely appreciated. Exam Timetable
All S4-6 students have now had their final exam assembly and final exam timetables have been issued. A copy of Qualifications Scotland’s Your Exams , and the slides from the assembly have been shared on Google Classroom.
It is critical that students check their personal timetables carefully and report any errors to Ms Struthers in Rm 112, or to Mr Hunter in Creative Learning.

Below you will find a copy of the PowerPoint shared at assembly today, along with a full Lasswade High School exam schedule. Please note that most of our morning exams start at 8:40, this is to fit with the timings of the school day. Please note we have provided only the ‘main exam’ schedule – students who have additional time should adhere strictly to heir personalised timetables, given out yesterday or last week.
In advance of the exams, the Qualifications Scotland have provided details of the services that are available to students if they are unable to sit an exam, for a reason ‘outwith their control’.
Exceptional Circumstances
There are times when a student cannot sit an exam for reasons that are outwith their control – these are called ‘exceptional circumstances’. If your child cannot attend an exam it is vital that you let us know so that we can prepare alternative evidence for them. Alternative evidence is in the form of formal assessment materials that have been produced throughout the course of the session. It is important to note that not all absences from an exam are exceptional circumstances, and students must have completed all non- exam components (i.e. assignment, project…) to qualify for this service.
Appeals
In keeping with last year, appeals will be free for all students and open to all students for any of their qualifications. More details on how to access this service will be provided in the coming weeks, and we will provide support for appeals following the publication of results.
Easter School and Study Supports
Our Easter School will begin on Tuesday 7th April, offering students the opportunity to access revision sessions over the holiday period. Students can register their interest for these sessions via their Year Group Google Classroom. Sign up opens this Monday, 23rd March and closes on Friday 27th March. Places will be confirmed thereafter. A copy of the timetable is provided for you here.

E-Sgoil are also running a virtual Easter School. This covers a wide range of subjects and can be used in addition to, or instead of, the Lasswade Easter School. Achieve is excellent another online revision resource which supports knowledge and skills development across many subjects. This provides the opportunity to learn, test and track progress. In addition, this website has a section this year called ‘Succeed’ which can support with revision strategies, such as how to prepare flash cards, etc. If making an account for the first time our school code is: Zx7tGreK
