| Hello, a couple of questions …
Would it be possible to add a sweatshirt or hoodie with the school logo to the uniform options (in addition to the quarter zip)? Would the school consider becoming phone-free for pupils during the school day? |
We’ll ask our supplier and see what the cost would be.
It’s highly likely that we’ll do a full phone consultation next session. There is a fair bit of emerging science, albeit contested, that phones are not ‘good’ for young people. They are however, highly addictive, and that’s one of the challenges. |
| As far as I can tell, the high school has never had a sports day. This is the first mention of one. My child knows nothing about it. | We have had Sports days in previous sessions. All details for students are posted in Year Group Google Classrooms. Students need to check their classroom regularly. |
| I heard about a child who managed to get into the school on Thursday, ( I’m aware she used to be a pupil at lasswade but is no longer) The chat from my children is that she had a knife and wearing a MoMo mask. Could you please expand on this. As you can imagine this has raised alarm bells. Firstly about how she got into school and if she did have a knife. I’m hoping you can reassure a worried parent. Kind regards |
A former student of LHS who moved to another school a few weeks ago came into the school as they previously saw it as their safe space. We are not 100% certain but believe she was assisted by current students. When challenged by staff in the building their behaviours became very dysregulated which presented as a lot of shouting, refusing to follow instructions to leave the building and put a mask on for a very brief period of time. There was no weapon/knife involved.
We sought support from our Police Scotland School Liaison Officer who attended with a colleague and they engaged with the young person and their family member who the school had contacted. Unfortunately the shouting and screaming at the police officers happened in a very public part of the school at class changeover, so was very visible to other students. |
| I have been made aware that a previous pupil has entered the school last week unauthorised and had to be removed by police. My son isn’t too concerned by this but as a parent – I am!!As this has not been mentioned in the headteachers newsletter, it would be nice to hear that the school has used this incident as a warning and will be putting measures in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Fortunately this incident sounds to have been minor but it does cause concern for the ease at which someone who may be wishing to cause harm, could enter the building. Thanks |
I can understand your concern. We take these incidents very seriously, hence police involvement.
I did not to put this in my Update as a warning as I don’t think it would reach the audience it needs to. The main means of entry in such incidents appears to be 2 fold
In addition, like most secondary schools we ‘cover’ every period in the week with a duty system. This means a promoted member of staff is on call to respond to incidents. These staff wander the building, with a radio when on duty. That generally helps us to become aware of incidents quickly and in a position to respond. That was the case last week. Finally, such incidents reinforce our belief that our school dress code is important for security reasons. An item, e.g., tie, quarter-zip, blazer e.t.c., helps us quickly identify LHS students. |
