| I just want to be clear that this is not a complaint to school but really as context to add to the phones in school work you are undertaking. My child casually announced that they’d watched the footage of Charlie Kirk being shot and killed at school yesterday. Someone in class was showing it round and as far as I can gather, it was in between classes, not in class. Obviously, I know that the person may have had access to this on the way home or online somewhere else but seeing it during the school day must’ve had an impact on student learning and concentration and I’d love to hear what options there are for phones at Lasswade once your work has started. I’m also aware of how difficult and time consuming this work is, so I appreciate the fact the school is taking phones in school seriously. |
Thank you for taking the time to share this information. Students with data on their phones can access things online that Midlothian’s systems block through Chromebooks. This is why completely inappropriate footage can be seen inside the building. Either that, or it’s been downloaded out with school and saved to the device.
In terms of options the Scottish Government Guidance for schools supports a range of actions; from a total ban at all times for students and staff through to a staff and student freedom, and everything in-between. Mrs Yule is our lead on this and we’re working on our consultation strategy. Parents/carers with concerns about the impact of this situation should contact their child’s Student Support Teacher in the first instance. |
