Response to feedback submitted from HT Update week ending 19/09/25. I’ve anonymised the primary school to protect confidentiality.

| Can you please consider doing parents evening face to face instead of online because not everyone is able to have online access at home and I speak on behalf a lot of parents who their kids attended ‘local’ primary. I had my daughter S1 student support consultation yesterday 18th and I couldn’t get into the website and ended up missing it. | We will always consider the format of evenings like these. It’s usually through our major survey every year and also through our Parent Council. Our pattern is established for the year and agreed with staff. The soonest we’d change would be next session. In the meantime I’ll pass your details onto Student Support and they’ll give you a call. |
| What is going on with school uniform in Midlothian just now? I appreciate that Midlothian Council have stated that schools cannot enforce students having to wear clothing with school logos on it. I believe their intention was to reduce the cost of school uniform so parents could source cheaper, non-school branded clothing if they wished. However, the opposite seems to have happened with pupils wearing expensive branded clothing, especially hoodies, instead of uniform or plain black, in the case of Lasswade. There has been a real shift away from the blazers, shirts and ties of three years ago, when all children were the same. There is now pressure being put on parents to purchase single items of clothing well in excess of £100. I feel this is worth a conversation at both school and local authority level. Perhaps black, non-branded in ANY way or school tops should be encouraged. | Dress code is another topic we re-visit regularly. We seek the views of parents in a similar way as described above with phones. Views are different and we are seeking to balance those views with Midlothian and National Guidance.
Our Parent Council is a great forum for discussion and messages can be sent to our Chair, Sara Adam, via email or Facebook. Come along to meetings if you can and/or for details on how to access Sara, click here
