Key messages from this week
Calendar: Next week’s key events include: Student Voice Year Council Meetings and School Values S1 to S3 Year Assemblies, both all week; Tuesday is our rescheduled S5/6 Parents’ Evening, held via video conference; Wednesday is our Parent Council Meeting, held via Zoom, from 7.00pm; on Thursday we’ll email parents/carers their child’s S2 Alert Report.
Staffing Update: This week we welcomed Dimitrios Dimitsas to our School Library. Dimitrios is based in the library, unsurprisingly, but will work across teams to support literacy and learning across the curriculum.
Lasswade Life Podcast: Episode 4 – SCQF Ambassadors is now available for your listening pleasure. Thanks to Angela Wallerstein and our fantastic SCQF Ambassadors for their time and efforts – listen here to hear on Spotify to what they have been up to and about our journey towards the Silver Award which we hope to have very soon! They will also be making an appearance at the upcoming Senior Phase course choice info evening on 24th January.
The Changeworks: Get expert energy advice on keeping your home warm this winter. The Changeworks in Dalkeith project is hosting an ‘Ask an Expert: Warmer Homes Clinic’ where you can speak to expert advisors from Home Energy Scotland. You can get support on feeling more comfortable at home and saving money on your energy bills. The event takes place from 9:30am – 12:30pm, on Saturday 21st January at One Dalkeith Centre, 21 Eskdaill Court. Register your interest for a 15 minute advice appointment by emailing changeworksindalkeith@changeworks.org.uk
Students Out of Class: Please note that from Monday of this week we are now expecting all students who are requesting to leave class, usually to go to the toilet, to log their request and absence from class via a QR code. This action is in response to concerns that too many students are asking out and also a few acts of vandalism. The information gathered allows us to better monitor who is out of class and gives valuable information around possible patterns where students are repeatedly asking out. This allows supportive conversations to be held with Student Support staff.
