HT Update: Week Ending 2nd December 2022

This concise weekly HT Update will be published every Friday afternoon with a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update.  Feedback received, where appropriate, will be responded to and published on Monday afternoons on the school website link. 

Key messages from this week

Calendar: Next week’s key events include;  Wednesday where 60 S4 students are involved in First Aid training, we also have our Student Voice Parliament and Wednesday Evening is our Christmas Concert; Friday is our LHS Christmas Jumper Day and the S1 Alert Report issued.

Staffing Updates: Laryssa Lototkyj started as PT Complex Needs on Monday. Thank you to Lucy Park who has been acting PT following Mick O’Gorman’s departure until Laryssa started with us. Within Melville, Jamie McQueen has begun as acting Head of House and Dawn McNeil as acting PT Tracking and Monitoring until the permanent arrangements are confirmed.

S5/6 Parents’ Evening: Due to planned Industrial Action we have moved this Parents’ Evening from Thursday 8th December 2022 to Tuesday 17th January 2023. There is a separate website post on this and parents/carers have been alerted.   All parental bookings made already will be maintained in the parent booking system and transferred to the new date.  

Senior Team: We are delighted that Suzanne Yule will be returning to Lasswade High School following the Christmas break. Suzanne has been Acting Head Teacher at Saltersgate School since Easter 2022 and will be returning to her substantive post as DHT Student Support. 

Christmas Concert: Our concert will take place on Wednesday 7th December, beginning at 7.00pm.  Tickets are available via ParentPay and for collection thereafter from the Music Team.  Tickets cost £1.00 and we are requesting/encouraging those attending to also bring items for our food bank donations and children’s gifts for Mission Christmas. School Panto:  Ticket sales are going well for our Christmas Panto, Snow White, on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th December.   See ParentPay to book.    

Parking Reminder:  Please avoid parking in the disabled spaces near the main entrance, unless of course you have a ‘blue badge’.  We have no authority to move cars/drivers who are parking there inappropriately and rely on individuals doing the right thing.  However, we do liaise with our ‘Campus Cop’ and he is able to organise periodic checks around those waiting in disabled bays.’   This may also include Police action on cars ignoring the Bus Only signs and dropping-off and picking-up in the bus bay.   Please ensure that if you are dropping off/picking up your child by car you do so in the school/centre car park.  Police monitoring will continue.  

HPV Vaccinations:  After having reviewed clinical evidence, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) supports a change to a one-dose schedule for children and young people aged up to (and including) 14 years from 01 January 2023. Previously, two or more doses had been indicated. This means for students that have already received one dose, they do not need to get a second dose.  Letters have been issued to students who have received previous doses of the HPV vaccine advising them that the clinical evidence indicates no further doses are required.

We have not yet received a date or consent forms for the S1 HPV Vaccination.

Teenage Booster Immunisation (Diphtheria/Tetanus & Polio and Meningitis):  Consent packs have been issued to all S3 and any S4-S6 students who have not been immunised.  Please complete and return by Friday 9th December 2022.  The scheduled date for this immunisation is Wednesday 8th February 2023.

S3 Parents Evening:  This is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 13th December 2022 online via the Parents Evening Booking system.  The booking system is open and will close on Friday 9th December at 12 noon.
