This concise weekly HT Update is generally published every Friday afternoon.  It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update.  Any feedback received will be responded to and published on Monday on the school website.

Key messages from this week  

Calendar:  Significant events week beginning 30/03/26;  on Monday we’ll hold our P7/S1 Transition Information Evening; on Tuesday we’ll hold a Qualification Scotland Exam Assembly with S5/6,  and in the evening we’ll have students at the Midlothian Percussion Extravaganza Concert at Newbattle CHS;  on Thursday it’s our S6 Last Day programme from 11.30am.  School also closes for the Easter Holidays at 3.25pm.  We return to school on Tuesday 21st April 2026.     

Staffing:   Kim Jones,  PCWO and ‘Melville Legend’ is retiring.  Next Thursday is Kim’s last day.  She is a genuine character with a heart of gold.  She’ll be missed by many students, their parents and colleagues across our community.  Thank you Kim and best wishes for the next chapter.  Congratulations to Wendy Easterbrook who has been appointed PT Science at Beeslack CHS.  A thoroughly deserved promotion.   Wendy will be with us until the middle of May.  Congratulations to Mark Millar who’ll join our staff permanently as Teacher of Home Economics from August. He is currently our Newly Qualified Teacher in Home Economics.  We have one vacancy currently live on myjobscotland, Teacher of Design & Technology (August Start).  

Uniform Update: Uniform:  Following this week’s Parent Council meeting, we would like to share a brief update on questions raised regarding school uniform. 

• Delivery delays with BE Uniform have now been addressed. If you have any ongoing issues, please contact the school office.   
• We have been made aware that knowing what size to order can be difficult. Families are welcome to arrange a time to try items on by contacting the school office, however there is a whole-school fitting event planned for 16th June from 4pm to 5:30pm.
• Iron-on badges are now available via ParentPay costing £2 each.
• We have noted feedback about the black and white uniform and will continue to review options in line with Scottish Government guidance ensuring uniform remains affordable and represents good value for families.
• Please note the 1/4 zip ladies fit top is being discontinued by the supplier, we will continue to explore alternative options.

Parent/Carer Stakeholder Consultation:  Thank you to those who have completed this survey.  We’ve had 117 responses to date.   The link was sent to all parents/carers on Monday. We’ll send a reminder next week as there are more than 1000 families! The more who respond the better we understand parental views. This then helps us improve what we aim to do.  The survey will remain open until our return after the Easter break.   Thank you for your anticipated thought and time to complete this survey.
