Friday 27th September 2024

This concise weekly HT Update is generally published every Friday afternoon.  It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update.  Feedback received, where appropriate, will be responded to and published on Monday afternoon on the school website.

Key messages from this week

Calendar:  Significant events next week;  Monday through Thursday we have around 30 students attending our London Trip, organised through our Citizenship and Society Team, we’ll also hold ‘Senior Active’ sessions across the four days targeting senior boys to be more active across a range of sports; on Tuesday we’ll hold Senior Phase Assemblies with the ‘Hardest Geezer’ (see below),  we’ll also have students involved in the Senior UK Maths Challenge and it’s our POD Parents’ Evening;  on Wednesday Senior Phase students will attend the Developing Young Workforce Road Show in Edinburgh;  on Thursday we’ll hold House Assemblies for our S1/S2/S3 students.

Staffing:  On Tuesday we aim to appoint a permanent Principal Teacher Creative Design. Candidates will meet with staff and students as part of the process.  Our re-advertised Teacher of Creative Design post closes on 03/10/24.  A huge thank you to all in Modern Languages for their work in organising yesterday’s European Day of Languages activities. Our teams demonstrated their creative approaches to interpreting their allocated country!

Hardest Geezer:  We are delighted to be welcoming ‘The Hardest Geezer’ to LHS on Tuesday.  Russ will speak to S4 and then S5. S6 are invited to come to either of the Assemblies if they are free or have capacity in their studies to come out of class.  Russ’s story is an inspirational achievement and we expect there will be an impact on our students.  Please click here to read a wee bit more about him.

Coldwells Photos:  We have issued the paper photo proofs to students through classes over the last few weeks for those families who were not able to initially login directly.  If your child has not received theirs they can collect it from student reception.  The first orders have been received from Coldwells this week and our Admin Team are working to distribute these to students.  They can be collected from student reception.  The next delivery from Coldwells is expected just before the October break.

SQA:  SQA is carrying out research about National Qualifications assessment in 2024 and they would like to hear from as many learners as possible. The survey, click here,  will remain open until Friday 11 October.  If your child is in S5 or S6 please encourage them to complete it.  It’s important for SQA to understand how well the assessment process worked and for them to develop an understanding of the views of learners.

P7 Open Evening 2024: Our annual Open Evening for current P7’s and their families will be held on Thursday 24th October 6pm-7.30pm. Last year’s event was a huge success. We welcomed over 550 people through our doors for an information assembly and departmental workshops. The event this year will follow a similar pattern and will be publicised through our usual channels and by our associated primary schools.

Reminder, Virtual Maths Circle (for children aged 7-14 and their families):  The Virtual Maths Circle is a one-hour live online workshop split into two slots: one for 7-11 year olds and one for 11-14 year olds held on Saturday, 5 October, 10:00am – 12:30pm.  Participants are welcome to attend either of the slots, or both, according to their preference and the age of the children.  The event is free to attend, but booking is required, via Eventbrite.  10:00am slot for 7-11 year olds booking page: click here  11:30am slot for 11-14 year olds booking page:  click here  For safeguarding reasons, the organisers require that each child/young person is supervised by a parent, guardian or responsible adult at all times during these online events.
