Key messages from this week
Calendar: Significant events week beginning 01/12/25; on Monday we’ll hold an S1 Assembly; on Wednesday and Thursday we’ll be visited by colleagues from across Midlothian who’ll be undertaking a Quality Assurance Visit focussed on our work relating to Wellbeing, Equality and Inclusion.
Staffing: Our thanks and best wishes to Scott Wilson, who leaves us today to take up a promoted post in Fife. Scott is a terrific Teacher of Mathematics and person, we’ll miss him but know he’ll do great work in his new role. Congratulations to Katherine Lebida who’ll take on the Development Post responsibility for our NQTs and Student Teachers. We have no posts currently live on myjobscotland.
Digital Pathways: At our S2 to S3 Course Choice meeting on Tuesday we agreed to post our digital pathways and show how a student might ‘move through’ the school when they enter S3 from a digital perspective. Digital education is one of our most interesting areas from a curricular planning perspective as it’s an area where the ‘public sector’ does to an extent try to play catch up. LHS is no different and it means that this pathway gets added to as new opportunities arise. However, our digital offer can be limited by pragmatic factors such as cost and the capacity of staff. Click on Digital Technologies – Pathways and you’ll see what we do in school. The post school opportunities in employment, Further or Higher Education are vast!
Survey on play and social opportunities for disabled young people aged 12–14: We’ve been asked by ‘Play Midlothian’ to share this opportunity for you to contribute your views. We know that accessible, enjoyable, and inclusive activities can make a real difference for young people as they grow and form friendships. To help Play Midlothian understand what is needed locally, they are gathering the views of both parents/carers and young people themselves through short surveys. The surveys ask about interest in a new play group for disabled children aged 12–14, as well as the types of activities, supports, and environment that would make the group enjoyable, accessible, and meaningful.
Your feedback will play a vital role in guiding the development of potential new opportunities and facilities designed around the needs and preferences of young people in our community. If you are a parent or carer of a disabled young person aged 12–14, please complete the survey and, where possible encourage your young person to share their views by completing the ‘teen’ survey. Links to access and complete the online surveys can be found here:
All responses are confidential, and participation is voluntary. The survey should take only a few minutes to complete. If you enter an email address on the FORM, you will be entered into a free prize draw to win a £25 One4All shopping voucher.
Creative & Cultural Showcase Feedback: Thank you to those able to attend our annual Creative & Cultural Showcase on 13/11/25. We hope you enjoyed your evening. If you could take a few minutes to fill out our Google Form. We would greatly appreciate your feedback on the event.
Christmas Appeal: Reminder. Each year our staff and students come together to support young people and families. We launched this earlier this week and need your help. Please click here for more information.
School Photographs: Reminder. ColdwellsArt.co.uk have asked us to let you know that the ‘Final Call’ deadline for School Photography orders is Monday 1st December to make sure they arrive before Christmas. Photo proofs have been distributed to students. If you don’t have them, please get in touch with Coldwells info@coldwellsart.co.uk Thereafter, fill in the details on your photo proof, add the payment and pop everything in an envelope labelled ‘Photo Order’ and hand this into Student Reception. Coldwells will ensure everything is delivered back to the school. If you prefer you can call them directly 0131 663 1203.
