Staffing: Congratulations to Erin Thomson, Teacher of Mathematics who has secured a promotion as PT Numeracy at Beeslack Community High School. Erin is a teacher with outstanding leadership potential and we wish her well. She’ll be with us through September and will leave at the beginning of October. We expect a national advert for her replacement to go live next week. I would also like to extend a huge thank you to David Hester, our Creative Design Technician for the fantastic job he has done on the benches outside the front of the school. His dedication and skill have transformed this area, providing refreshed seating for our students, community and staff. This excellent work greatly enhances our school environment.
P7 Open Evening 2025: On Tuesday 4th November 5.30pm-7.30pm, we will be hosting our annual P7 Open Evening. This is a very popular event during which we share important pieces of information with P7 pupils and families to support primary/secondary transition.
S1 Extra Curricular Fair: This important event for S1 takes place next Wednesday morning, periods 1&2. Each House is allocated a slot within this time and S1 will not miss 2 periods of teaching. The event will raise awareness of the clubs and groups available and encourage S1 sign-up
Mobile Phone Policy: In the past year, the Scottish Government has released non-statutory guidance on Mobile Phones in Scottish Schools which makes clear that schools can implement phone bans. Following this and recent research on the detrimental impact of mobile phones and social media on the learning and mental wellbeing of young people, several schools have implemented updated mobile phone policies including phone bans. This session, we will be reviewing our approach to Mobile Phones at Lasswade High School in consultation with students, parents and staff with a view to rolling out a new policy for 2026-27. More information to follow.
POD Cabin: We are pleased to announce the upgrade to our POD Cabin, which now features brand new equipment in both the sensory room and two quiet rooms. These enhancements will greatly benefit our students and staff. A huge thank you goes to Councillor, Diane Alexander, for her invaluable support in making this project a reality.
Junior Panto, Peter Pan: We are running dance auditions for this year’s panto. Auditions are open to anyone from S1 – S3 and will be taking place on Wednesday 10th September from 3:30pm – 5pm in the Dance Studio. To apply, all students need to do is fill out the google form posted in their Year Group Classrooms. This must be completed by Tuesday 9th September before students attend the audition. Students with questions should see Mrs McKenzie (Rm 007) or Miss Brown (Rm 006) in the Drama Department.
Police Scotland WhatsApp Guide: A helpful document for parents/carers from Police Scotland regarding young people’s online communication has been shared with us. Click here to access it.
Girls in Engineering Event – Strathclyde University: Mrs Sharp posted information in the S2 Year Group Classroom this week. If you want a wee bit more information on the process click here.
