HT Weekly Update: Week-ending Friday 17th May 2024

Friday 17th May 2024

This concise weekly HT Update is generally published every Friday afternoon.   It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update.  Feedback received, where appropriate, will be responded to and published on Monday on the school website.

Key messages from this week

Calendar:  Significant calendar events next week;  SQA exams continue all week, including Monday with Classical Studies and Computing; on Monday school is closed to all students, except those with SQA exams, as it’s our final In-service Day of the session; on Tuesday it’s our Parents Evening for Pod students and the second of our online P7/S1 Transition events;  on Wednesday we have the last of our Jupiter Artland trips; on Wednesday and Thursday we’ll have a number of students out of school related to their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award; on Thursday it’s Lasswade World Book Day;  and on Friday it’s our Summer Fair and Eric Liddell School Sports Day.

Staffing:   Another quiet week re staffing,  no major news.

In-service Day: On Monday we’ll welcome colleagues from all 7 of our associated primary schools to the Lasswade Learning Festival.  We’ll have key-note speakers and around 35 workshops.  Should be a wonderful day of learning for the 280+ colleagues we are expecting to host.  This day is a great example of how we work with other schools to promote the learning and development of staff.

Rag Bag Collection: If you’ve been into the building recently you may have noticed a new collection point near the School Reception/Library for the ‘Rag Bag’ scheme. Sinead Guthrie, Art & Design,  and her Eco Team have done some amazing work bringing this together.  The scheme increases awareness about textile recycling and by increasing recycling rates we can help the environment by ensuring less material goes to landfill. Our school will be paid for every kilogram recycled.  We are looking for;   wearable clothing,  paired shoes, handbags and belts/ties.  We don’t want/can’t collect work wear, uniforms, wet/soiled clothes, curtains, blankets, linens, pillow cases, cushions, blankets, books or electricals.  The textiles that we recycle through Rag Bag are either made into industrial wiping cloths, carpets, underlay and mattress linings or good quality clothing is transported to developing nations where your ‘old’ clothes are re-used.  Great time for a Spring Clear-out, so send in donations with your child or drop-off a donation yourself. A huge thanks in advance for all donations.

School Uniform:  BE UNIFORMS – FURTHER REDUCED PRICE ORDERING WINDOW.  BE Uniforms have a further reduction in price for any 1/4 Zip Top orders received before 30th May 24.  Any orders placed between these dates will be at the reduced price of £25.30. After this time they will increase to £28.  If you intend to order 1/4 Zip Tops for the 2024/2025 school session please take advantage of this offer before prices increase on the 1st June.  For ordering information and details, click here

School Leavers:  Any S4-6 student who is leaving in June needs to return their Chromebooks.  They can retain them for the exam period and we understand many will want to do that. After that students need to return their Chromebook to school. Students can bring them in at any time but we’ll have a dedicated return slot on 31st May from 9:30 -11:30am as well. We’ll send a reminder about this. Click here to access information to support students in preparing their Chromebook for return.
