Key messages from this week

Calendar:  Next week sees our Study Skills events taking place across the week,  see below, in addition;   on Monday we’ll hold a Study Skills Parents’ Evening, via Zoom from 7.00pm;  on Tuesday we’ll hold our S5/6 Parents’ Evening, via Zoom;  on Thursday we’ll hold our third Parent Council meeting of the session,  also via Zoom;  Friday is a Dress Down Day.

Staffing: Congratulations to Marion Reid who was successful through interview for a permanent PCWO position. Emma Ward will be joining us in December as our new PT Technologies. Sara McDermott will join us as Head of House on a secondment in January.

Creative Industries Showcase: A huge thank you to all the staff and students involved in our Creative Industries Showcase.  There was an excellent level of support from parents, carers, friends and family members supporting our young people.  This helped make the evening an incredibly successful event.  It’s fair to say we impressed all of our VIP guests, including Ms Jenny Gilruth, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, who praised our students’ creativity and remarked on the resilience shown by young people through the pandemic.

LASSLangs: On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday over 300 P7 students visited Lasswade HS to take part in a brand new and exciting event, LASSLangs. The aim of the event was to inspire and enthuse our P7s around all things Modern Languages.  All of the P7 students had the chance to try 17 different activities and the primary staff were extremely complimentary of the event. Over 40 of our S6 students led the workshops, including face painting, quizzes, blindfolded race car driving, food tasting, singing, geography and many more. A huge thanks and well done to our Modern Languages Team, in particular, Imogen Innes, who created the entire event with the help of Jin Zhao and James Poots.

Mission Christmas & Hamper Appeal: The S6 Charities Committee are about to launch Mission Christmas and our Christmas Hamper Appeal, for local families. There will be posts on Google Classroom, the school website and social media shortly. If you are able to help contribute items we’ll be happy to receive.

S4 Parents’ Evening Evaluation: Parents/carers of S4 students are asked to please visit the website and complete an evaluation of the evening,  click here.

Study Skills Week: On Tuesday we posted a website story on this with additional details on this, click here.

S2 into S3 Course Choice: We posted a website story on this today.  The evening will be online and be held on Monday 27th November.  It is aimed at the parents/carers of S2 students.  Click here for details.
