Key messages from this week
Calendar: Significant calendar events next week, our last before the summer break; on Tuesday we have students visiting the V&A Museum, also on Tuesday through Thursday it’s our Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Qualifier Expedition; on Wednesday and Thursday its our School Show, We Will Rock You; on Friday it’s our June Dress Down Day, we’ll have an extended break for students/staff and we finish for the Summer Holiday at 12.15pm.
Staffing: On Tuesday we appointed Hana Petrie as our DHT Curriculum on a permanent basis. Hana has been successfully acting on a full-time basis in the role since October 2023 and prior to that on a part-time basis since August 2022. She’s done a fantastic job and we are delighted she is now permanent in the role. Congratulations also to Mandy Bennett, Grace Watson and Pamela McVey in Creative Learning who have successfully completed their PDA in Youth Work and graduated this week. We have two posts currently live on myjobscotland
BGEd Award Ceremonies: A huge thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to the Broad General Award Ceremonies this week. A special note of thanks to Lorna Hume, her team and the students who performed at all four events. Also thanks to Angela Bowman for her administrative support in preparation for the ceremonies, and to Sarah McKay for organising the video clips. Particular thanks to Claire Main for coordinating and leading all involved. It was lovely to see so many parents/carers, family and friends able to attend with over 250 students recognised. Congratulations to all those terrific young people.
Applying for Free School Meals and Clothing Grants: Midlothian Council are requesting that parents/carers do not apply for free school meals for the new term in August until the new forms go online around mid-July. They are currently fielding applications, and replying to each one, to clarify that applications for school session 2024/25 are not yet live. In addition, they have shared information as we head towards the summer holiday period regarding summer holiday payments. SQA: We posted the following information in Google Classrooms this week. SQA are looking for learners in S3–S6 to have their say on the future of their brand by taking part in a short survey, click here.
Fostering/ Adoption/ Permanence Panel Member: Midlothian Council is looking for panel members to sit on the Fostering and Adoption & Permanence and Continuing Care panels. These panels all have vital roles in the delivery and monitoring of quality care for children and young people. They make recommendations about approval of carers and the matching of looked after children to long term foster carers or adopters. Integral to the role of the panel is to provide a high level of scrutiny in relation to the child’s planning and/or quality of care they experience. If you think that you can contribute to making a difference to children and young people in Midlothian and are interested in learning more about becoming a panel member please get in touch with Denise Gillies –denise.gillies@midlothian.gov.uk or Jacqui.fenty@midlothian.gov.uk
Fun activities over the summer: Midlothian Council’s Summer Activities programme includes over 300 free activities for families and children of all ages. More details about the summer programme can be found via this webpage: click here.
