This concise weekly HT Update is generally published every Friday afternoon. It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update. Feedback received, where appropriate, will be responded to and published by Monday afternoon on the school website link.
Key messages from this week
Calendar: Next week, most of our S4 students are involved in our Work Experience Programme, we wish those on placement well; on Tuesday through Thursday we’ll hold Student Voice Year Council meetings; on Tuesday through Friday we’ll hold Year Group Remembrance Assemblies, culminating in our S6 Assembly on Friday and a whole school Minute’s Silence at 11.00am.
Staffing: At the end of next week we say goodbye to Graham Tennet, who is moving on to lead the Computing Team at Mary Erskine’s School in Edinburgh. Graham has worked at LHS for 19 years and will be missed by both students and his colleagues. We thank him for his years of service to the school and the community, and wish him well in his new post.
Senior Phase Assessment Calendar: In addition, to the Assessment Calendar being accessible through the Curriculum section of the website click here. We have also adjusted the Calendars section on the website to allow easy access to both the School Calendar and the Assessment Calendar click here. Please note there are not two separate Assessment Calendars. It is the same calendar in two places on the website.
Wider Achievement: The Autumn 2023 issue of our Wider Achievement Newsletter is now available on our website. Lots of great student success and photos, click here.
S4 Work Experience 6th-10th November: A reminder for your information that those S4 students without a placement should attend school and follow their timetable, however almost all will be out of class on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th for an in-school work experience event with Lloyds Bank.
Students out of Class: In a continued effort to keep students out of the corridors, we have asked our teachers to not allow students out for breaks in the middle of a double period class. This has become a bit of a habit in some areas. Any short ‘breaks’ in a double period should mean the students remain within the classroom.
SQA Appeals: This week the appeals results were released to school. From the 143 appeals we submitted, 24 resulted in upgraded awards for students. If you are interested in how the SQA assess and process Appeals they have information on their website click here.
Study Skills Week: This will run during the week beginning 20th November. Senior Phase Students will have the opportunity to attend after school workshops to develop their revision strategies. In addition, we plan to hold a Parents Information Evening, via Zoom, from 7.00pm on Monday 20th November. This will be aimed at the parent/carers of Senior Phase students with a similar evening for parents/carers of those in the BGED later in the session. Both sessions will share strategies to allow all parents/carers to support their young people at home. Details to follow soon.
School Photographs: A gentle reminder from Coldwells Art regarding photography orders, click here.
S4 Parents’ Evening: On Wednesday 15th November we’ll hold our S4 Parents’ Evening, click here. Following feedback gathered from parents/carers we’ll trial opening the booking system on a Sunday evening rather than Monday morning when parents/carers may be more likely to be at work.
