Thursday 12th September 2024
Given the holiday weekend our HT Update is published on Thursday afternoon. It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of the Update. Feedback received this week, where appropriate, will be responded to and published on Tuesday on the school website.
Key messages from this week
Calendar: Significant events next week; Monday is a holiday with school closed for staff and students; school reopens on Tuesday; on Friday S2 will be involved in our ‘Smashed Live UK’ performance and workshop
Staffing: Last Friday we secured our preferred candidate for the joint Home School Practitioner post between ourselves and Burnbrae PS. Yesterday we identified, from a lengthy leet, 3 Learning Assistants who have been offered posts across Creative Learning and The Pod. We’ll share names and start dates as the next phase of the recruitment process progresses. On Tuesday we’ll aim to recruit our Teacher of Creative Design.
Student Reports: Please note that our pattern of written reports on student progress are available on the school website click here. Each year group in our Broad General Education (S1/S2/S3) will receive two written reports during the 2024/25 school session. Those in the Senior Phase (S4/S5/S6) will receive four reports. These will be issued on the following dates
Please note this is an increase of one report, compared to recent sessions, for our Senior Phase students.
Senior Phase Awards Ceremony: Congratulations to all our students recognised last night. The evening was wonderful and a particular thank you to the wide range of staff who supported the organisation of the event. This ceremony is the culmination of our collective work; students, parents/carers, teachers and support staff, thank you. Our collective commitment to nurturing our students’, your children, and creating the conditions for students to learn make a profound difference every day.
Wider Achievement: All Extra Curricular Clubs will start next week. We have around 30 opportunities for students and see the benefits for students as follows; the chance to learn a new skill, to build new and positive relationships, and finally to enhance skills such as Creativity, Problem Solving, Curiosity, Focussing, Collaborating. Click here to view a copy of the new timetable and see what clubs we have on offer. Messages have been placed in Year Group Google Classrooms and on Wednesday we held our S1 Sign-Up Fair.
Midlothian Service Standards and Quality Improvement Plan: We have been asked to share this ‘family-friendly’ version of Midlothian’s Service Improvement Plan, click here.
Girls Rugby: This week I had the opportunity to congratulate our girls team on their successful 2023/24 season. Lasswade under 14’s were crowned East Emerging Schools Champions back in April and the under 16’s claimed the East Evolution Challenge title. This is a significant achievement for the teams and school. The girls who played are a credit to the community they represent. A special thank you to the coaches, volunteers and parents who made this all possible. The trophies will be placed in the cabinet at the entrance of the school
