S2

S2 Modern Languages

The Modern Languages S2 course is based on ‘Studio Two (Green).’

Topics covered are:

  • T’es branché(e)?  (covering TV, cinema, reading, online habits and the weather)
  • Paris, je t’adore! (finding out about France’s capital, surviving as a tourist)
  • Mon identité  (describing personality, relationships, music, clothes)
  • Chez moi,  chez  toi  (being able to describe your home-life,  meals, shopping)
  • Quel talent? (talking about talent and ambition, describing what people are like)

By the end of  S2 students will be more confident about using the present and future tenses and will have been introduced to the past tense and the conditional tense.  Students will also have deepened their understanding of the culture of the French speaking world.

A large proportion of homework will be done online.

Homework / study support is available.  Students should discuss this with any member of the Modern Languages Team.  Teachers also support students through Edmodo.

Assessment is ongoing and based on student’s work in class and at home with formal end-of-unit assessments in the skills of reading, writing, talking and listening throughout the year.

Students in Modern Languages will also undergo short taster courses in Mandarin and German during S2.  These courses mirror the topics covered in French.

China Club meets regularly to support Mandarin learning and is a very useful way for S2 students who have had their six-week taster to keep their Mandarin skills up-to-date before opting to pick up Mandarin in S3.
