Tuesday 26th April 2022
Please note that we have secured agreement with Midlothian Council to move some year groups to Blended Learning Days during the 2022 SQA Diet. In total six days are required. The first date is on Thursday 28th April with S1 learning ‘at-home’. As stated in previous communications, with Covid-19 related Blended Learning days, we are advising parents/carers as early as possible to allow them to plan arrangements around childcare. As all students have been issued with Chromebooks we are confident their learning can continue at home. Work will be set via Google Classrooms.
Blended Learning Days are required on particular days during the SQA Diet primarily to accommodate Alternative Assessment Arrangement (AAA) requests that have been agreed with students sitting exams. We have significantly more of these requests this session than in previous ‘SQA Exam’ years. AAA requests are granted to students in a range of circumstances and can often mean that individual students, or small groups of students, need separate accommodation. If the entire BGEd year group is in-school on these days we run out of space and/or staff to accommodate everyone/everything; exams, AAAs, S1/3 classes and Grade Booster Days. Moving classes to different classrooms/areas within the school only work if there is enough space, and because of Covid-19 guidance this means space with ventilation. We don’t have enough of that on particular days.
Typically the days we need are days where there are large numbers of candidates, several exams on the same day or days where the exams are particularly ‘essay’ heavy. The situation is exacerbated by the accommodation requirements of the Local Government Election Team and what that means for PE as well as available space.
Our confirmed Blended Learning Days are attached below.

Please rest assured that we will provide reminders to parent/carers a couple of days prior to each day.

Face Coverings – Update
The legal requirement to wear a face covering in most indoor places has now been replaced with general safety guidance encouraging people to wear face masks in busy/crowded places.
