Return to School 3: Re-coursing Students in the Senior Phase

Friday 13th August 2021

As we prepare for the return of our students on Wednesday 18th August this post shares Senior Phase Re-coursing Arrangements with parents/carers.  As this is Senior Phase orientated it only applies to those students, and their parents/carers, in S4, S5 and S6.    Messages will be posted in Senior Phase Year Group Google Classrooms (please note these have been renamed to reflect new year groups, S4 becoming S5 etc).

Our Return to School 1 post, covered Covid-19 related mitigations and arrangements that will be in place from the start of term.  Return to School 2 covered First Day Arrangements.  This post covers Senior Phase Re-coursing. An additional post this week will focus on:

Senior Phase Re-coursing Arrangements

All Senior Phase students will be issued their timetable first thing on Wednesday 18th August.  We expect that all students follow this timetable until any changes are made and agreed.  In effect, students should follow the timetable given to them on our first day back until a new timetable is physically issued to them.

Senior staff managed to resolve lots of issues regarding options, courses and timetables before the summer break.  However, we do know that for some students this did not happen and expect that a few students will be seeking a re-coursing discussion.  Therefore, Senior Staff will prioritise appointments with students in our first two days back.   These need to be planned via an appointment system to ensure discussions happen quickly and safely.

Our aim is to resolve any re-coursing requests in the first week to maximise the time students are in their courses and learning.  The later a student starts a course the more catch-up is required.

To request a re-coursing appointment students should complete the Google Form which is accessible via the link below.  Requests should be made by lunchtime on Tuesday 17th August.  DHTs will then then arrange and confirm appointment times with students.

Further information regarding the School College Partnership and Foundation Apprenticeship Courses will follow as soon as the details become clear. Students who have applied for a School College Course must continue to check their emails (the address from which they applied, including ‘junk mail’) for further updates or actions required on their applications as these details are not sent to the school.
