School Timetable Update

Tuesday 11th May 2021

Preparations are progressing well as we bring together student choices and staffing to build our 2021/2022 school timetable.   We are currently working towards a provisional date in mid-June for our timetable change, although this is not yet confirmed.

We concluded our course choice process a week ago, a little later that we’d have planned under more ‘normal’ circumstances, but are working hard to make up the time to meet our deadline.  Students will receive notification of their allocated courses and levels in due course and prior to the timetable change.  Further details will be issued around this over the coming weeks as we near our anticipated timetable change date.

Almost all students have been allocated courses and levels from their selected choices and reserve choices.  In addition, the order of preference has also been taken into account to meet the needs of as many students in our Senior Phase as possible and to ensure those progressing through the Broad General Education maintain a broad range of subjects whilst offering some specialisation through an element of free choice. Where this has not been possible, students will have had a conversation to look at the most suitable alternative choices and will have decided upon any additional subjects/levels during a discussion with either their Student Support teacher or DHT.  This will be finalised over the coming weeks.

With around 950 students to fit into courses, with most selecting between 5-7 subjects, this process is complex and not everyone will be able to get all their preferred choices. However, we anticipate we will meet almost 99% of choices in the Senior Phase and 100% for those moving into S3.  This has been as a result of positive and productive conversations with many parents/carers and students as well as a trial of our online course choice system – TOOLS.  We are grateful for the hard work across the coursing team and for the support of parents/carers and students reflecting on their reports to make informed choices for those moving into S4 in particular.
