Senior Assessment Calendar – Updates

Assessment Calendar: January – Easter

Please find the assessment calendar for next term below. The PDF version is available via the link just below the ‘live calendar’ – some of you may prefer this version as it shows the assessments in a colour coded list.  This will also be published on Google Year Group Classrooms as a calendar link and PDF.

Please note, on occasions, some assessments are scheduled outside of the column model, this is to help the balance of assessments across the week.

In addition, please note that some assessments have timings that sit outside of the column model. Details about these assessments will be provided by class teachers as they have particular requirements. For example, Modern Languages speaking assessments will have an appointment schedule, whereas the Practical Cookery practical assessment takes more than two periods to complete. These assessments have also been coded in a darker colour of red or green to make them easier to identify (PDF only). In addition, you will notice that week beginning 14th March has been selected for the final PE ‘one off’ performance assessments. These will run throughout the week, with some going into the following week, if necessary.

Please also be aware that the dates of SQA Performance Exams, i.e., those involving a visiting examiner, will be added as they become available to us. These dates are provided by SQA and should become available from January onward. Again, departments, and class teachers, will communicate the details of these with students.

LHS Assessment Calendar Jan – April

What happens if I miss an assessment?

Given current public health guidance, and the requirement to self-isolate if someone in your household tests positive for Covid-19, you may be wondering what happens if your child misses a scheduled assessment. We have only scheduled a very limited number of assessments on a Monday, this is to allow for assessment ‘mop ups’. Where this isn’t possible, or interferes with a student’s other classes, students will be given an opportunity to sit a missed assessment at another suitable time.

However, wherever possible, students should make every effort to be in school to sit assessments as scheduled in the calendar.

What happens if there are more Blended Learning Days?

If in the Spring Term there is a requirement for Blended Learning Days, as there has been in December 2021, we will not automatically ask Senior Phase students to learn at-home.  We will look at a range of factors including the scale of the issue facing us,  the notice period we can provide,  the volume of assessments in the Assessment Calendar and the significance of in-school requirements for Senior Phase students before we identify a year group, or groups, to learn at-home.  We would expect that if there are significant Blended Learning requirements all year groups may be asked to take their ‘turn’ and learn at-home.

SQA’s Your National Qualifications and Malpractice

Before the end of the session all Senior Phase English classes will be given their SQA My National Qualifications booklet, which outlines the plans for exams this year and the importance of adhering to SQA guidance. To make this clear for students, The English team will also lead students through a lesson on how how to avoid malpractice, specifically what plagiarism and collusion are, and what can happen if you are found to be plagiarising or colluding in an internal assessment, or in SQA coursework. A copy of the SQA booklet, and the English team’s lesson, are also supplied below, for your information. It is critical that all students read and understand this key document prior to submitting any coursework for this session.
