SQA- Formal Assessments

Sunday 25th April 2021

Monday 26th April marks the start of formal assessments to support Provisional Results for N5, Higher and Advanced Higher qualifications.

Formal Assessments will be undertaken in class time to prioritise time for learning and teaching. We are using an approach where assessments are ‘broken up’ and ‘spaced out’ so that students can better manage their revision and progress towards their qualifications gradually.

All students should have received a letter prior to Easter with the key dates for assessments. We have also shared key dates and other information about what’s required for each assessment with students through subject Google Classrooms.

We have also shared an LHS SQA Student Guide and video on Google Classroom to help students understand the expectations of these assessments and how to access the support available to them.

As our students complete assessments, we are undertaking a range of activities to check and moderate assessed work. In addition to our in school quality assurance, we are working locally with our partner schools in Midlothian and taking part in national SQA verification events. This work will continue throughout the summer term and we will provide further updates about our activities to support fair and appropriate certification.

We appreciate that this has been a challenging year for all our learners, but particularly those in our Senior Phase. At this time we would like to offer our best wishes to all of our Senior Phase learners as they work towards their SQA qualifications this term.

If you have any questions about assessments, please feel free to get in touch using our dedicated SQA e-mail address LasswadeHS-SQA@mgfl.net
