Due to the ongoing lockdown, our plans for Senior Phase students to undertake formal assessments to support SQA qualifications is currently on hold. Whilst we are pleased to be able to welcome back a small number of our Senior Phase students to complete critical practical work, the First Minister has indicated that there will be no further return of students until at least the 15th March.
Our subject teams are currently planning for the learning and assessment activities that they would like to prioritise when more students are able to return to school. We understand that this uncertainty is causing anxiety for our students. However, we would like to reassure students, parents and carers that we are doing our best to plan in advance so that we can provide students with as much notice as possible for any return, to ensure that students have appropriate time to revise and prepare.
Some subject teams are also planning remote assessments. These are not suitable as evidence to support Provisional Results in most subjects due to the variety of conditions and supports available at home. However, the purpose is – where appropriate- to provide students with assessment practice and meaningful feedback to support upcoming ‘in school’ assessments. Teachers will continue to communicate clearly with students about the timing and nature of all assessed work.
This week the Scottish Government has also announced that there would be an extension to the deadline for submitting Provisional Results until the end of June. This will provide more time to gather appropriate assessment evidence. It remains our plan to schedule formal assessments between April and June. We are currently working on a number of plans to ensure that this is managed in a way which is both safe and provides all students with the appropriate supports.
We will continue to provide further updates about our plans for assessment through website posts and with students via the Year Group and Subject Google Classrooms.
