Lasswade High School is the largest secondary school in Midlothian with a roll of approximately 1500 students.The school’s catchment area covers the towns of Bonnyrigg, Loanhead, Rosewell and surrounding villages. The school also receives placing requests as a result of a positive reputation from within and beyond Midlothian.  Lasswade has a strong record as a school and provides a wide range of opportunities for learners. Bonnyrigg is a small town in Midlothian a little over six miles south east of the centre of Edinburgh.  It forms the south eastern part of a larger settlement created when it merged with Lasswade.  In more recent times Bonnyrigg has thrived because of its proximity to Edinburgh.  The new Lasswade Centre is less than two miles by road from the Edinburgh bypass and this is one of the factors that have caused significant amounts of new housing to be built around the edges of the town in the last decade leading to a quite dramatic growth in school roll.  There are also very good public transport links with Edinburgh and recently nearby Eskbank regained a railway station when the Waverley Line from Edinburgh to the Borders was reopened. The brand new Scottish Futures Trust £37m Lasswade High School & Centre incorporates a community hub with library, leisure centre, nursery, computer stations, conference suite, swimming pool and state of the art sports facilities including a gymnastics academy.  Outside there is a multi-use games area comprising grass and all-weather football, hockey and rugby pitches and extensive car parking. The school has over 90 classrooms and high quality learning facilities.  Lasswade High School has very close and successful working relationships and transition arrangements with its cluster Learning Community primary schools and nurseries; the quality of this joint working has been recognised by Education Scotland who also highlighted strong community partnerships. The school is extremely well resourced with ICT equipment.  Every classroom has access to interactive whiteboards and projection facilities and the school is well equipped with i-Pad technology and wi-fi.  All classrooms are resourced to a very high standard equipped with smartboards and state of the art technology.  The school run a very successful Continuing Professional Development programme for all teachers.  Lasswade is famed for its extra-curricular provision including numerous sports, as well as cultural and artistic opportunities for students.  There are also numerous clubs and societies in which the students are encouraged to be involved.  The school is proud to have maintained an Eco Schools Green Flag for over 10 years.  Lasswade High School places a high value on teacher participation in extra-curricular activity and also on its extensive school trip programme.  In relation to global education, the school is nationally recognised for a 10 year partnership programme with Shanghai and also hosts the Midlothian Confucius Hub. The High School has a School Leadership Team consisting of a Headteacher and four Depute Headteachers.  There are seven House Pastoral Principal Teachers in a highly valued House System.  There are over 130 teaching and support staff in 12 Curriculum Departments.  Each Curriculum Area benefits from its own Principal Teacher leading curriculum development, teaching & learning developments, attainment & achievement initiatives and supporting positive behaviour.  The school benefits from highly successful Additional Support Needs staffing and resources, including a Principal Teacher of Support for Learning, Department Teachers and on-site Youth Workers and experienced Learning Assistants, all positively recognised and praised by HMIe Education Scotland.  Teachers are very well supported by a team of Administrative Staff and Technicians. The school also has an extremely supportive and vibrant Parent Council.  There are a number of senior school international students.  As stated above, the school have a partner in Shanghai and teach Mandarin as part of the Modern Languages curriculum.
