Tuesday 1st October 2019
This session has witnessed the launch of our Girls School of Football. This programme, run in partnership with Bonnyrigg Rose and the SFA, builds on the success of our S1 Group last session. The girls involved came through a trials and interview process before the summer break and are now fully up and running with Miss Helm acting as the Lead Coach. Miss Taylor also provides support to the group as her schedule permits.
Around 20 S1 and S2 students are involved with 4 periods per week allocated to the programme; a double period on a Monday and Friday supplemented by an after school session during the week. Miss Helm reports that early training sessions have gone well as the squad prepare for fixtures coming up during the next few weeks and months.
Two students have been selected as Captain and Vice Captain for the season; Freya Turner (Captain) and Lois Aitchison (Vice Captain). Both girls spoke recently with Mr Hornell, Head Teacher, and reported things were going well so far and that the squad were working hard and supporting each other. They reported that around half the squad also trained with teams out with the school programme, including Hearts and Hibs.
Best wishes to these ‘history makers’ and please follow our social media posts to see how the squad progresses during the school year.
