Key messages from this week
Calendar: Key events in the school this week: on Wednesday through Friday our rescheduled Silver DofE practice expedition takes place, on Thursday we’ll send out our S3 Report
Staffing Update: This week we offer our congratulations to Emma Haynes and family on the birth of their baby boy, Finn; mum and baby well. Congratulations to Sarah Fleming, PT Creative Learning, who recently was successful at interview for a permanent DHT post at the new Wallyford School in East Lothian. Sarah is currently on a secondment to Saltersgate School and will not now return to Lasswade. She’ll begin her new role on Monday 17th April. We thank Sarah for her outsatnding service to our school and wish her well in this new and exciting role. Finally, congratulations to Scott Cairney who was successful at interview and is now our permanent PT Tracking & Monitoring for MK
Senior Phase Coursing: This process continues. Last week’s focus was on S4/5 with the emphasis moving to S3 coursing this week. The target completion date for all coursing is 20/03/23.
Parent Council Meeting: Advanced warning that our in-person Parent Council Meeting on Thursday 23rd March, with a 7.00pm start, will have two main items of discussion. The recommended format of Parents’ Evenings next session and secondly discussion on possible changes to our school dress code requirements. These are generally two issues that are of significant interest for parents/carers and the meeting is a good chance to have your voice heard. This week we’ll add some specific website posts on both issues to allow some pre-meeting thinking.
Review of Qualifications and Assessment: This important national review has moved to a new phase with the recent publication of an Interim Review by Professor Hayward. This gives a strong indication of what a new system in the Senior Phase could involve. Please click here to access the report and look out for further information this week on our website. There is an opportunity for our students to attend an online session on Thursday 16th March led by Professor Hayward. To see additional details on this opportunity please click here.
Royal Coronation: At a recent Midlothian Council meeting it was agreed to apply to the Scottish Government to close all schools on Monday 8th May. This is the additional Bank Holiday granted as part of the Coronation of King Charles III. The government has agreed to this request and as a result all Midlothian schools are closed on Monday 8th May.
Industrial Action: Good news, no more strikes and school closures. The major union, EIS, has voted to accept the most recent offer which takes us through to August 2024.
