Covid-19 Mitigations: Update

Please note that recent Scottish Government Guidance becomes live in schools from Monday 28th February.  It represents the next step in the phased approach to easing mitigations, while maintaining the focus on doing so in a way that supports wellbeing, learning and teaching.  We expect further advice in the coming days.

It is the beginning of a relaxation of some mitigations but still reflects a relatively cautious approach. It makes clear that schools should continue to apply all those mitigations that remain in place. Caution and guarding against Covid-19 fatigue or complacency remain essential as we work towards maximising the attendance at school of students and staff.

The main changes from Monday, in our context, are as follows

• Removing the requirement to wear face coverings in classrooms, while maintaining existing provisions in communal areas or when in close contact with others.  This means that when staff and students are moving around the building; in corridors, stairwells, open areas and our Atrium, face coverings are still required.  Staff will be expected to wear a face covering when working in close contact with students or colleagues.
• Staff and students who choose to wear a covering in class will be allowed to do so and fully supported.
• Removing the remaining restrictions on assemblies.  This means we will shortly be able to resume our pattern of assemblies in our main hall.  This is helpful in building a sense of community and sharing information and key messages directly.
• Transition visits can now resume fully if appropriately risk assessed.  This is helpful for new enrolments and our for our P7/S1 programme.

Please note we continue to encourage students to be responsible and bring their own face covering.  Nevertheless,  we will continue to distribute coverings, if required, through our established methods.
