HT Weekly Update: Week-ending Friday 28th June 2024

Friday 28th June 2024

This concise weekly HT Update is generally published every Friday afternoon.   It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update.  I’ll leave the feedback, unless urgent, until we return in August.  I’m sure you’ll understand.

Key messages from this week

Calendar:  Significant calendar events next week;  no school, but a General Election,  please vote it’s important!

Staffing:   There are a number of staff who have left us today, for a variety of reasons.  Marion McGurk in Mathematics and Diane Beards in Computing are retiring.  Both well deserved and we thank both for their years of service and wish them nothing but health and happiness as they enter the next phase of life.  Harry Gaughan, Science, and Grace McKenzie, HE, are moving onto permanent posts in new schools. Iona Wineberg,  Learning Assistant is leaving to begin her training to be a primary teacher.  Robbie McDonald, PE and Katharina Strobel, Modern Languages, are also moving on.   We are delighted that Emma Whittingham has also secured a permanent DHT post in a school in a neighbouring local authority.  She’ll begin in her new role when schools return in August. Emma has been an outstanding teacher and leader in our school, we will miss her but at the same time I know she’ll be a star in her new role and continue to support and challenge colleagues and young people.  Best wishes and thanks to all our staff who are leaving today.

We Will Rock You:   Our school show was phenomenal.  That’s all that needs to be said.  Except,  thank-you to all involved.  You rocked and we all enjoyed it enormously.

S6 House Captains:   Our House Captains were appointed a couple of weeks ago and already have been busy.  For your information they are: Somaya Munir and Hannah Nicolson in Melville; Joel Bradford and Lexi Gordon in Mount Esk; Alfie Ross and Holly Alexander in St Anne’s; Ellie MacArthur and Jessica Currie in St Leonard’s.  Congratulations to these young leaders and best wishes as they move forward in their role.

School Uniform:  We have updated our dress code expectations and website advice, click here.   Please note there are minor changes and they serve to strengthen our expectation that students are clearly identified as LHS students.  This expectation helps us keep everyone safe.

SQA:   We posted an item on our website this week regarding 2024 SQA Results and Appeals, click here.  We’ll remind parents/carers nearer the time.

Thank You:  Can I take this opportunity to thank all our parents and carers for their on-going support of the school.  Working with young people is a privilege but truly a collective effort.  We need and rely on your support to do our job.  Thank you for that and long may it continue.

Return to School:  Students return to school on Wednesday 14th August.

Tone Zone Refurbishment

As you may be aware via the Parent Council Facebook and the most recent Parent Council Meeting minute I have been concerned about the timing and impact of the Tone Zone refurbishment.
