HT Weekly Update: Week-ending Friday 31st May 2024

Friday 31st May 2024

This concise weekly HT Update is generally published every Friday afternoon.   It’s a simple opportunity for you to also feedback/ask questions via the link at the bottom of each Update.  Feedback received, where appropriate, will be responded to and published on Monday on the school website.

Key messages from this week

Calendar:  Significant calendar events next week in what appears to be a busy one;  on Monday we move to our 2024/25 school timetable, with all year groups moving forward, S1 to S2 etc.,  we’ll also hold an ME Broad General Education Awards Ceremony rehearsal and Year Assemblies with our new S2, S3 and S4 students; on Tuesday we have an MK Broad General Education Awards Ceremony rehearsal and our Duke of Edinburgh Silver practice expedition takes place on Tuesday through Thursday; on Wednesday we have a French Cinema Trip, VEX Robotics Club Trip, our SA Broad General Education Awards Ceremony rehearsal and Year Assemblies for our new S5 and S6; on Thursday students will attend the Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show,  our S1 Full Report is issued and it’s our SL Broad General Education Awards Ceremony rehearsal.

Staffing:   Best wishes to Mark Melrose who leaves us to return to East Lothian,  we thank him for his work with us.  Next Friday afternoon our three Newly Qualified Teachers will attend a Celebration Event organised by Midlothian.  Today I have read, and signed-off, their final report that will be submitted to the General Teaching Council.  This is part of the national scheme and ensures they are, from August, fully registered teachers.  The quality of their learning and progress is abundantly clear. Well done to Abby Clelland, Morgan McCurdy and Robbie McDonald.  We are pleased that Abby and Morgan will join our staff permanently in August and disappointed we don’t have a vacancy that would allow us to retain Robbie, who we hope will secure a post elsewhere.

School Day Timings:  A reminder that our school day will begin at 8.40am each day from Monday.  We’ll finish at 3.25pm (no change) on Monday through Thursday and at 12.15pm on Friday.  Please also note that we’ll retain split breaks and lunches on Monday through Thursday but will trial a combined break on Fridays.  Full details are on our website, click here.

School Transport:  We have been in discussion with the Transport Team all week.  Information was received this morning regarding transport.  For our school details, click here.  It appears there are no alterations for our students.  This is slightly surprising given our later start time.  We’ll monitor the morning drop-off times which should not be happening before 8.20am but suspect in some cases this will happen.  If this proves to be the case we will work with the Travel Team to address concerns.

‘We Will Rock You’:  Tickets for our summer show go on sale from Monday.  Performances will take place on the 26th & 27th of June at 7pm in the Assembly Hall  As you will be aware, the Performing Arts Team has been hard at work to bring you this year’s amazing production of the Queen inspired story. We would recommend purchasing your tickets quickly, as our last two shows have sold out.  We would really love to see as many of you there as possible to support all the hard work that the students and staff have put into this production.  Tickets are £8.00 and will be available for purchase on ParentPay from Monday 3rd June.  Thereafter, tickets should be collected from room 006/007.

Girls School Of FootballThere will be a trial for any girls currently in S2 who would like to be considered for the School of Football programme as they move into S3.  The S3 School of Football programme is based around training on the pitch but also 2 units in the gym (resistance & circuit training). The trial is open to any girls in S2 who play or have an interest in football. Please be aware there are limited spaces for this opportunity.  If students would like to be trialled for the School of Football programme they should see Mrs Haynes in PE for details.

School Uniform T-Shirts & Polo Shirts: We have introduced the option to buy t-shirts and polo shirts with the Lasswade HS Logo, these are now available to order on the BE Uniforms website.  For ordering information and price details, click here

Poltonhall & Bonnyrigg Community Gala Day:  We are pleased to share the programme, click here, for the weekend, hope the sun shines and all involved have a great day.
